Sadly, only a handful of these intricate old designs are still being incorporated into the production of modern goods.

The annual Feria Nacional del Cobre (Copper Fair), combined with the Fiesta de la Virgen del Sagrario, is held in Santa Clara del Cobre from August 6 to 17. Festivities include exhibits and sales of hand-worked copper, music and dance.

Approximately 25km south of Pátzcuaro, via a country road over a pine-draped pass, lies Santa Clara del Cobre, long celebrated for the copper crafts on which it continues to thrive.
