Information about Todos Santos, Mexico
First Photo of Todos Santos - Mexico TODOS SANTOS, located just north of the Tropic of Cancer, marks the halfway point between Cabo San Lucas and La Paz. It’s also relatively unusual in the cape region, with great beaches in easy reach. Founded in 1723 as a Jesuit mission, the fortunes of Todos Santos have risen and fallen ever since: it was destroyed by an eighteenth-century indigenous uprising, then gained (and subsequently lost) status as a major place for sugar-cane growing. In the 1970s, with the creation of the Trans peninsular Highway, throngs of surfers came in search of giant waves, followed in the 1980s by an artistic crowd, many of whom settled here.
Second Photo of Todos Santos - Mexico There’s also some great whale watching from the shore: sit on any of the beaches in the winter months and you are bound to see several of the creatures. Today, the pleasant, leisurely paced town is home to a thriving community of local and North American artists, despite undergoing rapid change: it became part of the government’s Pueblo Mágico in 2006, so tourism and infrastructure development has been ramped up and a spate of condo and hotel projects are in the works, many controversially located on the beaches.
Third Photo of Todos Santos - Mexico The Church, Theater, Cultural Center & Museum and so many historic buildings are often open to the public, especially during the Historic Homes Tour. Organizations hold seminars and workshops here. The next Music Festival is going to be HUGE. A popular Art Festival is held annually. Magazines hold shoots and photo-spreads. There is a wide array of quiet Guest Rentals to choose from and longer-term Vacation Homes for rent. There are many Homes and Lots on which to find your special place.
Fourth Photo of Todos Santos - Mexico The Southern Baja peninsula hosts several unique eco-systems that are special to us. In December we watch all the Whales migrate through our coastline. Todos Santos (All Saints) is on the Pacific coast about 45 miles north of Cabo San Lucas.
