The Cumbres de Majalca National Park, situated about 70 km (43 miles) to the northwest of Chihuahua, offers opportunities for hiking, rockclimbing, and wilderness camping among forested canyons and peaks.
This extraordinary and beautiful national park belongs to the state of Chihuahua. Dubbed Majalca Cumbres National Park, is located north of the city of Chihuahua. The place has huge rock formations which were eroded by rainwater and wind, capricious forms that shaped them.
It was created as a national park by presidential decree issued on September 1939, covering a total area of 4,772 hectares. All the surface of the park has its extension into the central area of the Mexican state of Chihuahua in the municipality of Chihuahua.
To get there from the city of Chihuahua; which it is located approximately 48 kilometers to the north, take the federal highway Mexico 45 Chihuahua - Ciudad Juarez (Panamerican Highway). After approximately 31 kms take the road that goes towards the park. This last journey takes approximately 30 kilometers.
Elevations and valleys that make up the site are within the mountainous area known as Sierra de Majalca, which reaches heights of up to 2600 meters this mountain shape in turn part of the great Sierra Madre Occidental. The place is located in a transition zone called BabĂcora - Bustillos, which contents several high valleys are surrounded by mountains of volcanic character. Therefore it can be mentioned that the area of the zone is uneven.
The mountains reach a great height and the most important are: The hills Brooms, Door, Los AlmĂceres and Cerro del Agua. Other elevations are and are common in the area are large volcanic rocks that have been eroded by various climatic factors such as rain and wind, which have become strange formations.
This park is visited especially on weekends by inhabitants of the state capital and nearby towns. Here you can practice walking, hiking and observation of the landscape. It has camping areas and in the suburbs located in the place you can find basic services. There are also climbing routes along the main canyon called Salsipuedes and various special tours for mountain biking, hence the annual mountain bike race Challenge Majalca following his journey to end in the city of Chihuahua.
