Playa Bagdad located 26 kilometers east of Matamoros, is a soft sandy beach and calm waves that allows the practice of fishing and water activities. The beautiful sand dunes of this beautiful beach, are good for venturing into 4 x 4 vehicles has palapas, showers and slides.

The restaurants at the seaside offer fresh seafood dishes such as roasted, dishes and cocktails crab and shrimp ceviche and grilled fish. Every year for most week Festival of the Sea, which can be enjoyed artistic performances, sports events held and fun. Playa Bagdad is named since 1991, in memory of the port that existed between 1860 and 1910 here.

Previously it was known as Playa Lauro Villar and interestingly Beach Washington initially. It is a clean very handy in hot season soft sandy beach, attractive holiday. Its waves are very quiet and unlike other "flat" shallow beaches. Playa Bagdad is located 40 km. east of Matamoros, is a clean beach, ideal for fishing and water sports. It has restaurants, public showers, palapas and slides. In the period of greatest week, a large number of visitors is observed, parades with floats, sports tournaments and concerts.

It is local custom roasting meat and enjoy a cold beer in the summer sun. The restaurants on the banks also offer an excellent choice for fresh seafood and freshly prepared. A key recommendation is to start the meal with a delicious cocktail shrimp or crab and roasted or prepared in coaching as a main course fish. You can also enjoy a day full of adventure if you climb to the banana, surfing is practiced or the jet ski. The beautiful sand dunes are good for 4x4, four-engine or buggies. For the little ones gokarts and slides are the best choice. Unlike other beaches, here you can find whole shells and snails on a walk along the beach. Another attraction is the sport fishing where you can find several species, or, attend a fishing tournament. At Easter parades are held with floats, sports tournaments, concerts, car racing and cultural events. Do not forget your souvenirs at craft stores.

Was named after the US port of Bagdad, which stood at the mouth of the Río Grande and was at one point the only port supplying the Confederates during the Civil War. Clean and pounded by invigorating surf, it offers the chance for a first (or last) dip in the surf off Mexico’s Gulf coast, and is very popular at weekends with Mexican families, who gather in the shade of the palapas that stretch for miles along the sand.

There are lots of seafood restaurants, but few actually seem to offer much worth eating, so most locals bring picnics or cook on the public barbecues. You’ll need half a day to make a worthwhile trip out to the beach, though you can camp for free in the sandhills. To get there, take a combi marked “Playa” from the Plaza Allende, which drops you off in the car park by the Administration. It takes about an hour, and the office has showers (small charge) and lockers where you can safely store your clothes while you swim.

It is located on the northern border of Tamaulipas on Highway 101, 40 km east of Matamoros.. Matamoros is located 313 km from Ciudad Victoria on Highway 180.

By Road:

Access to the beach and Baghdad can be done by the Road No. 2, following the US border from Ciudad Acuna in the state of Coahuila, either on Route 180, from Alamo, Veracruz, a town near Tuxpan and Poza Rica.

By air:

The General International Airport Servando Canales is 15 minutes from downtown Matamoros.
