Calderitas is a beautiful fishing village located just 10 km north of Chetumal, which has a history dating back to pre-Hispanic period, when it was inhabited by the Maya who dominated the region, Calderitas is famous in the region for its restaurants with delicious dishes prepared with the best seafood in the area. Calderitas is also a spa.

Some coastal sections are enabled as artificial beach by large sandbags and is little that uses this space to sunbathe or lie to swim in the calm waters of the Bay of Chetumal people. The area also has hotels, trailer park, boat rides on the bay knowing the viewpoints of different birds and hummocks and tripe that remain untouched while enjoying the service of rent kayaks in Laguna Guerrero.

Their environment is covered with forests, where timber trees are given precious as mahogany, cedar, rosewood and sapodilla, from which chicle is extracted. Tamalcab Island is a small uninhabited island with white sand and calm waters, located within the Bay of Chetumal opposite the village of Calderitas, lush tropical vegetation composed of flooded lowlands and patches of tropical forest in excellent condition turn it into an ideal place to relax. Near Chetumal are several refreshing escapes. At weekends, the town descends en masse on Calderitas, a small seaside resort just 6km north around the bay; the best place to stay. You can hire a boat at the adjacent El Rincón de las Tortugas bar for various day outings: to the beaches on the nearby empty island of Tamalcab; a tour around the bay to look for manatees (3hr); or to several other nature spots.

Buses to Calderitas leave frequently from Cristóbal Colón west of Héroes, behind the museum in Chetumal.
