For food, make the trek to A Travel In’, just south of Balamku, for fresh-baked bread and healthy treats. In town, a grocery store is on the main street (Calle Huachinango), across from the 100% Agave bar.

By Road:

Mahahual considering that is located 145 kilometers northwest of Chetumal, right in the corridor called as Grand Costa Maya. The latter is a strip of 58 kilometers that unfolds from Punta Herrero to Xcalak. The road route to be used then to reach Mahahual is 307 or highway, if you come from the city of Merida, the federal highway 184.

So far, infrequent transport to this area has helped keep the tourist droves at bay, though this changed with the inauguration of a water-taxi service connecting Xcalak, Chetumal and San Pedro in Belize, followed later by a road across the border.

By bus:

One direct bus to Mahahual leaves Cancún daily at 7.30am (often rising to two or three in August), or you can take a bus to Limones and transfer to a bus coming from Chetumal. This latter service departs from Chetumal at 6am, 4pm and 7.30pm daily from the main bus terminal (though only the first two, by Caribe, also go past the hotels south of Mahahual and on to Xcalak). To connect, you should be in Limones by 7.30am, 5.30pm or 9pm, respectively. Leaving Mahahual, Caribe (second-class) buses start in Xcalak, then cut over to the coast road at Xahuayxol, passing the coast-road hotels en route to Mahahual. ADO buses serve only Mahahual.
