Akumal in the heart of the Riviera Maya just 37 km. from Playa del Carmen and just one hour south of Cancun Akumal is one of the best places to visit in the Mexican Caribbean for its great variety of beautiful beaches and tourist services.

Akumal means in Mayan language "Land of turtles" is still a favorite by these sea to spawn animal sites, however, what makes Akumal a place of charm and fascination for tourists from around the world, is its spectacular bay with clear waters and fresh waters of its caves and underground rivers.

Akumal is one of the most tranquil places of the Mayan Riviera a shallow, protected bay with a quiet beach and a nearby reef. You can also visit the Akumal Ecological Center which is located directly on the beach in Akumal, the information center shows various aspects of environmental education and is free for visitors. Akumal offers comfortable accommodation renovated villas, houses, modern condominiums cozy inns and Mexican style and Moorish buildings aspect, Bauhaus and Mediterranean as well as hotels, condominiums and luxury villas overlooking the Caribbean, restaurants and a small supermarket. There are two dive shops certified by PADI, located a short distance from Las Casitas. Both offer snorkeling equipment and dive for rent (daily or weekly).

In Akumal you can pay in cash but credit cards are also accepted is not certain that all places accept them.

By Road:

From Mexico City to Akumal, there is a distance of 1535 kilometers with a time of way by bus about 22 hours.
