San Patricio-Melaque is a coastal town which is 4 kilometers northwest of Barra de Navidad, in the municipality of Cihuatlan, in the state of Jalisco. Melaque is composed of three coastal communities that were integrated by the urban dynamics: San Patricio Melaque and Villa Obregon. All of them are known as "Melaque", a small town that has become a tourist destination for a long time. It is a place chosen by local families for rest and recreation.

Perched at the northern end of the bay, San Patricio - Melaque seems much more typically Mexican than Barra de Navidad (5km further south), with a central plaza, church and largish market. Though it remains popular with Mexican families and budget travellers, Melaque is much scruffier than Barra, more commercial and has a more transitory feel. San Patricio in the middle of the other two communities, at its center can find a picturesque square, and several craft shops and other products. In contrast, Villa Obregon, located to the east, is more residential. These three towns form the most important community in the coastal area located between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. By Road:

Melaque is located on the southern coast of Jalisco, about 300 kilometers southeast of the city of Guadalajara, 215 kilometers from Puerto Vallarta and 70 kilometers from the port of Manzanillo. To get there you must do it for self-Guadalajara Highway Barra de Navidad, or also for the toll road Colima-Manzanillo. In both cases it involves about 5 hours of travel.

The two bus stations face each other at the junction of Carranza and Gómez Farías and have frequent connections to Barra de Navidad (every 15min), regular buses to Guadalajara (5hr) and Manzanillo (1hr 30min), and four daily first-class buses to Puerto Vallarta (4–5hr).
