Las Gatas is a small bay protected from the waves, it features a stone parapet beachfront, which is counted dating from pre-Hispanic times and was built by the Purepecha, by order King Calzontzin to refine your family resort. It is distinguished by its clear and calm waters, ideal for the practice of free diving; because in the background you can see interesting coral and rock formations ornamented by countless colorful fish. however, the presence of rocks and abundant coral reefs in certain areas of the beach make this site is unsuitable for swimming. It owes its name to the abundance of Gallo sharks, harmless shark without teeth and whiskers, who lived in the waters near the beach. If you like snorkeling then Playa Las Gatas is ideal for you if you just beginning or those who are already experts; this beach has coral reef formations that have made waves, likewise surfers will find suitable for practicing their favorite sport waves. This beach has gained such popularity in recent years, which have proliferated small restaurants specializing in the sale seafood and drinks. There are also some small bungalows and a diving school. Towards the end of Playa Las Gatas you will find Owen Lee's Beach Club: a nature reserve to the South Beach (Owen was the first American to work as a photographer underwater aboard the Calypso with Jacques Cousteau and wrote several manuals diving PADI). The restaurant is highly recommended and also has bungalows for rent. To get there you have to address some of the small boats of the "cooperative" boats in the dock of the city from 8:00 to 17:00. Another so that locals use to reach this beach is making the trip 20 minutes along the road between the rock formations that together with Playa La Ropa, which provides a good opportunity to enjoy the beautiful landscape. Among the palm there is a spring, part of which a narrow paved path that climbs winding between lush vegetation to the lighthouse site from which you can admire in all its magnificence coastal landscape. The Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport is just 15 minutes away from Zihuatanejo by car. You may find direct flights from some cities in Canada and the US especially during the tourist season between December and April.
