Information
The island was discovered by Hernán Cortés during his trip to the mainland in 1534 and named Pearl Island by the large number of oysters found there. Many years later, in 1631, Juan de Iturbe and Francisco de Ortega, who were engaged in fishing pearls, baptized with its current name.

The island has 99 kilometers of area, its coasts have many multicolored cliffs where volcanic strata are appreciated. Holy Spirit is the habitat and refuge of different endemic species such as herons, red-tailed hawk, the cat tail bell and black hare. They are also sea lions and fur seals.

Although at one time was inhabited today Island of the Holy Spirit is only playground. La Isla del Espíritu Santo is located at the northern end of the Bay of La Paz, 29 kilometers from the city. Playa Tecolote or piers pangas depart La Paz, yacht or tourist boat to the Island of the Holy Spirit.

By land:

You can get through the transpeninsular # 1 "Benito Juarez" road from Tijuana to Los Cabos. This road offers the services of Federal Highway Police, Green Angels and emergency services that can provide the authorities of the nearest town: Red Cross, Fire, Municipal Police, etc.Recommendation: Do not drive at night (due to cattle), respect the signs and safety rules when traveling.

Loreto International Airport (LTO) receives US flights connecting the cities of Los Angeles, Tucson and San Diego; Aerolitoral (AM) provides domestic flights.

By sea:

It can be reached via ferries traveling from Los Mochis and Mazatlan to La Paz and Santa Rosalia to Guaymas offering a variety of services.
