Information
Meaning: "Wail of Deer". Cultural Significance During the Middle and Late Preclassic period (700 BC - 250 AD..), Acanceh was one of the main centers of the northern Yucatan Peninsula and maintained important relationships with other sites like Dzibilchaltún, Oxkintok and Mayapan.Occupation spread throughout the Classic period (250-1000 AD.) And corresponds to Posclásico decline. From archaeological research it has estimated that the pre-Hispanic settlement has an approximate area of 3 km2. Of the 300 structures registered on the site highlight two of monumental type: The Pyramid and the Palace of the Stuccos. The Pyramid is a substructure which was originally decorated with stucco masks and located on both sides of the four steps;eight masks in total.

Get There
The site is located in the modern village of the same name, on Calle No. 18 is the Palace of the Stuccos and Street No. 21 is Pyramid, about 25 kilometers southeast of the city of Merida, Yucatan . It is accessed by State Highway No. 18.
