Uxmal is an ancient place name, as it appears in several early colonial documents, however, its etymology has not been satisfactorily explained. The traditional interpretation of the meaning of the word is "Three times built", which could be an allusion to several successive occupations of the site. It is also possible that the word ux ("harvest" in the Yucatec Maya) to transmit the idea of a region of abundant harvests, according to the agricultural potential of the Puuc region.Cultural importance is undoubtedly the most representative settlement of architecture the Puuc Region.
