Xochitécatl is an adjective that means native or inhabitant Xochitlan while another translation might be "Lineage Place of Flowers". Cacaxtla cacaxtli is derived from the word, which literally means "place of Cacaxtles", with these few indigenous frames used to transport products.Importance Cultural Archaeological investigations in the eastern section of the site since its discovery in the 1970s, area known as Cacaxtla, they reveal one of the most important societies that developed in the Epi (650-900 AD) Mesoamerican period. Its power achieved political, military and economic hegemony in much of the Puebla-Tlaxcala Valley after the fall of Teotihuacan and Cholula, getting involved in commercial long-distance relationships with distant regions such as the Gulf Coast and the Valley of Mexico. Among its vestiges highlights Great Base, a major architectural complex of overlapping structures and townhouses that have sophisticated murals, paintings unique in its class, called Temple of Venus, Red Temple, Mural of the Battle and Portico A. Due to the need to protect valuable paintings in the 1980s a wide roof of about 10,000 m2 on the core section of the Great Platform was placed. Xochitécatl, it was erected on the summit of Cerro Xochitécatl adapting the architecture to the topography of the hill through residential terraces and culture, placing the most important monuments in the top including the Pyramid of Flowers, the Serpent Pyramid, the Pyramid of the Spiral and the Basement Volcanoes. Xochitécatl developed primarily during the Formative period (600-100 BC).Several elements studied as the ritual landscape, offering sets of figurines, human burials and archaeo-astronomical elements, agree on the concept of a ceremonial center primarily geared towards a cult of fertility and rain propitiation, whose symbols appear to be transmitted through the female image.

Get There
The archaeological site of Cacaxtla-Xochitécatl is located in the town of San Miguel del Milagro, about 19 km southwest of the capital, in the municipality of Nativitas. To access the area from Mexico City, is the No. 150 highway runs to the house of San Martin Texmelucan, Puebla. A few kilometers later, the output of the bypass in Xalmimilulco towards the town of San Miguel Xochitecatitla, where you can follow the directions to the asphalt road is taken (1.9 km.) That goes up the slope to Xochitécatl. To visit Cacaxtla, San Miguel should go toward continuing Xochitecatitla Nativitas until it meets the junction of San Miguel del Milagro Cacaxtla.
