Information
Tecoaque comes from the Nahuatl word whose meaning has been interpreted as "place where they ate the lords or gods." According to historical sources, before the Spanish conquest the site was called Zultepec, so, in 2001, Dr. Enrique Martinez Vargas proposed renaming of "Tecoaque" a "Zultepec." Cultural Importance The importance of this area is the border location was between Acolhua region in the east of the basin of Mexico and which was part, and Tlaxcala dominion. The origin of the settlement dates back to the Early Classic period in which he played an important role in trade routes dominated over time by Teotihuacan, Tenochtitlan and Texcoco.
