The name Calica (Industrial Limestone del Carmen) is the acronym of the company in whose land is the site. Within the grounds of the company they are located several sets, highlighting the "P" of Xcaret Group also known as "Rancho Ina" ("seed" in Maya), for a ranch that existed in the place or as Punta Venado, the name of the place in where you are. Cultural Importance The "P Group" consists of a monumental platform structures from different periods, as well as an integrated two platforms on which other structures are raised plinth and a pyramid of five bodies. The set is a representative example of early architecture in the region, dating from the Late Preclassic (300-50 BC) and Early Classic (250-600 AD), with significant reuse during the Late Post Classic (1200-1450 AD). On one of the platforms ("Great Platform P") An East Coast style building, known as "Temple of Columns", that inside preserves a sanctuary known as "The Blue House", which has up to 26 layers preserved stucco finish, including a splendid mural on the facade, which remains little more than 35%, which is a representative site of mural painting postclassical of the region, where important aspects were reflected on the design of the Mayan cosmos then. The whole "Kisim" or "Group Stela", is a good example of partnership cave temple, as the building is built over a cave and therefore ceremonies associated with the underworld, life, death and rebirth . The "M" Group is surely coastal navigation marker temple, located in front of a natural feature known as "puff" which was reported for the first time in the Geographic Relations of Yucatan, in the sixteenth century. Finally, "El Pueblito" or "Mulxchú Group" is an example of Preclassic housing complex where residential structures can be seen, apiaries and family shrines. Also it has an important late occupation with good examples of so-called "rural temples" Postclassic.

Calica archaeological site is located at kilometer 282.6 of the Federal Highway 307 Chetumal-Puerto Juarez in the municipality of Cozumel, 8 km south of the city of Playa del Carmen.Services available in the area None, the site is not formally open for public visits.
