Tepapayeca name can have two meanings, according to "The Geographic Indonimia Puebla" comes from the Nahuatl TePapa, modification tepan which means "on the rocks"; the other root is yeca verb equivalent to stepping, from which the noun "soil" becomes so would result "ground surrounded by stone walls." Locals, being the most Nahuatl speakers have another version, say it is "good and serene place" for pointing that way tepapacca word meaning "fine weather" and the adjective yectli, which is "good".
