Huapalcalco derives from the Nahuatl huapalli or huapalitl, table or small beam; calli, house and the locative preposition. "instead of the wooden house" Cultural Significance This site presents five different occupations, the first and oldest corresponds to the presence of prehistoric projectile points and type of Meserve hand ax which they are dated to 7000 BC and cave paintings located in the cliffs of Mount Bureau and Tecolote. The second occupation is a hamlet Late Preclassic occupation and the third is a settlement which is represented by the structure VI, which for its architectural style has a Teotihuacan influence. The third occupation is the most representative of the site as it marks the peak of Huapalcalco, which occurred in the Epi, in this period is very clear the importance of the site for the exploitation of obsidian of PizarrÃn and as a center regional who served as a place of passage between the Basin of Mexico and the Huasteca (saw). The fourth occupation corresponds to a small town set in place during the Late Post Classic, characterized by the ceramic materials Azteca phase III and IV of the Basin of Mexico.Elsewhere on the site are important findings as two yokes of Totonac origin and a sculpture of the Old God of Fire. Location chronological Main: Prehistoric was Cenolitic Lower 10000-7000 a.C. Early Classic 100. C to 350 d. C. and the rise of the site was in the Epiclassic of 700-900 d.

Get There
From the city of Pachuca, Hidalgo, necessary move by the Federal Highway No. 130 in the direction of Tulancingo. Two kilometers before reaching the town of Tulancingo northbound deviation is taken within three kilometers a new deviation goes to the town of Huapalcalco. One kilometer before reaching the latter, is the archaeological site. Visitors can reach the site by public transportation, using the group that directs Huapalcalco to Napateco, however, it must walk to the entrance of the site.
