Xtampak means in Mayan "Old Walls". Cultural Significance Some consider Santa Rosa Xtampak as perhaps the most important regional capital of the Chenes; Hence they expressed such power, which is one of the few sites in the region with altars, stelae with dates of events happening, sculptures in construction of pyramidal bases and in later times, perhaps around 900 to 1100 AD, the introduction of what has been reported as a sacbé or road linking two major architectural complexes and remodeling and increased most notably, but not volume, of its buildings: The Palace. The Santa Rosa Xtampak archaeological site is located near the kilometer 79 of Highway No. 261. To access the area, take the deviation to a 32-kilometer paved road that leads directly to the site.
