Information
This name may be derived from a species of agave (K) yellow (kan) which is common in the archaeological area. Another possibility is that the name has origin in the yellow wax (kan kib) that is taxed in colonial times in the region of Campeche. Cultural Significance This site features monumental architecture of the Puuc style standing in its earliest manifestations, same embossing its magnificence by vegetation that surrounds it. Countless substructures (or previous constructions) are exposed to the later stages of occupation of the site. The site was reported by Pollock in May 1940, who found it during his explorations in the Puuc region in the state of Campeche. The first evidence of occupation of the site date from the late known as the Early Classic period, ie between the years 500 and 600 AD. Its boom seems to have been during the years 600-650, and the last records of occupation have been dated to the Terminal Classic, between 800 and 1000.
