According Maler, the place names can be translated as "doubly good soil exposed to the sun," although the American historian Ralph Roys proposed that the name of the site can be Calomkín, meaning "window where the sun shines." Cultural Significance sequence Pottery Xcalumkín begins with some Late Preclassic materials, low presence of the Early Classic and Late Classic occupation Deposit and Terminal. The dates recorded in the hieroglyphic inscriptions of Xcalumkín ranging from 731 to 771 AD. Apparently no Postclassic elements. Xcalumkín was an important settlement of the Classic Maya period, especially from 600 to 1000 AD. Its remains extend in an average area of 10 square kilometers. In its properties it documented three successive phases own Puuc architectural style. It should be mentioned that only a few buildings were used as Xcalumkín temples; no pyramidal bases tall nor is registered ballgame.
